Spread the Word

I only have an AAS degeree, I know many of you have more college education than that but one of the things that was stressed in several courses was goal setting, I'm possitive that has been the case in many of your courses as well. Especially in business management classes. If the Fair Tax has set goals each year they have kept them a secret, I've been on their mailing list for years and I've never seen specific goals laid out. I have mentioned a more "organized" approach several time and sort of rebuffed saying this is a grassroots movement. What is to say grassroots can't organize into beautiful sod? There are a couple of states that seem to be organized on the state level and that is commendable. Can we make it 50 states in 2009?

Please respond and let's make this happen.

Jabari I don't disagree and Ken Hoagland expressed that in his last blog. We are not making anymore headway with the Republican leadership than we are with the Democratic leadership. We are attending perceived right wing events because that is all we have access to. Point us to some Democratic events and we'll be there with our literature. We would love that. We don't want to be perceived as partisan but it is like digging in hard soil you look for anyplace you can get a shovel in the ground.

Guilt by association is hurting FairTax

Let me say again, I feel many people are NOT FOCUSING on what
is truly necessary to get the FairTax Bill passed in THIS Congress.

From 2000-2006 Congress and the White House were ruled by Republicans. Even though Rep Linder was on the House Ways & Means Committee, at no time did the Republican leadership bring the FairTax up even for a W&M debate, let alone a vote.

Yet, people on this forum are fixated on what I feel are useless discussions about whether certain right-wing, neo-conservatives do, or do not, promote the FairTax enough. These people did nothing to get the FairTax passed when the Republicans ruled everything, why do you think they matter when they now have no effective power at all?

This ideological fixation on Republican/conservative groups and people is one major reason the people in power now, i.e. Democrats, see the FairTax as some right-wing driven neo-conservative scheme, and they don't begin to assess the FairTax on its merits because of its perceived base of support. And to tell the truth, if one just objectively listens and reviews the discussion on this forum they would have every right and reason to think that way.

Until people on this forum, and other FairTax supporters, get it in their heads that they must talk to the Democrats, and their supporters, and in a nice way, the FairTax will not go anywhere, and certainly not anywhere fast, no matter how good it is based on its merits.

Until people on this forum start to talk about reaching out to progressive and liberal political and social groups, and building mindshare with hem, so they WILL LOBBY on the FairTax's behalf, this group's efforts will continue to be offpoint and futile.

Again, the political reality is the DEMOCRATS are in charge, and nothing will be advanced unless a majority of them want it. And ignoring or alienating them, and their constituent groups, is not the way to advance the FairTax. And being seen to coddle up to people like Rush Limbaugh, et al, will be sure to tar the FairTax as guilty by association.

It is really sad and continuously frustrating that people on this forum continue to tie and associate the FairTax in a very partisan way to Republican/conservative causes and people, to the detriment of the FairTax. Because, as a avid supporter of the FairTax, but who is
a VERY PROGRESSIVE political Independent, I get so tired of hearing about all the forays toward these groups and people that not only don't matter, but who are balls-and-chains around the FairTax, in the eyes of people like me.

It is to the ultimate advantage of the FairTax that it not be associated with Huckabee, Hannity, Bortz, and even Linder, who are seen as rabid right-wing Republican partisans by most Democrats, who do the FairTax no good by continually attacking President Obama too.

Until this effort is actually seen to be non-partisan, by the people in power, we will continue to get the cold shoulder from people who would probably support it if they could get past its perceived Republican/conservative ideological affiliation.

So throw all the Tea Parties you want. But if supporters like me don't show up, or Democratic members or their staff, maybe that should tell you you are doing more damage than good to the FairTax, even though it may make you feel better (and comfortable) to be at these events.

I REALLY WANT TO SEE THE FAIRTAX PASSED THIS YEAR, AND ONLY THE
DEMOCRATS HAVE THE POWER TO DO THAT, SO IF WE DON'T TALK AND
FOCUS ON THEM, WHAT IS THE POINT TO ALL THIS ACTIVITY ON THIS FORUM.

I recommend Tom Wright. I haven't heard anyone better than he.

Tom: Of course your suggestion is good. One must remember that it is an uphill battle to get a politican to consider an issue that would require them giving up a source of campaign funds. Having said that it does not mean you don't try. The one thing that politicans fear more than loosing campaign mony is constituent support. Regarding speakers: Ken Hoagland is better than good as is Tom Wright. Of course there are many others. Some even on this site.

The Chiefs of Staff for Senators Lamar Alexander (TN) and Mark Pryor (AR) organize a bimonthly dinner (which usually invites a special guest) for all Senate Chiefs of Staff. Apparently, there are about 60 regular attendees. I would like to write to them and see if they would allow a FairTax presentation at one of their functions. As I don't think I would be the best presenter, I was wondering if the FairTax Leadership Group could recommend someone who would and could do such a presentation. I will wait for some responses before I send the letter.

Thanks

Billie, We have some prices from Jennifer and they are pretty good. We need to raise about 1500 dollars to do it right.

I'm working on this but I got sidetracked with the whole deal going on with Congressman King.

I have this and the FairTax Nation Online petition to get lined out. There are only so many hours in a day...

I'll give the first 50 dollars.

I don't know anything about this company or these people but I thought this was a better location for this information. I copied the following from "Forum" on FairTax Nation:

Hi Jim,

Jennifer with BallyHoo Banners here. We can help you give the professional look you are seeking. We are a large format digital printer and a member of the Fair Tax group in Kansas City.

We print many tradeshow graphics, and have offered our signage services to the Fair Tax of Kansas City. As our contribution to the cause we are donate the design work for banner stands and banners for our booths, and sell the products at wholesale costs. Our banner stands are portable and give a very professional look, something I think you were looking for. Our photo quality print pops because we print at 720 dots per inch, not the industry standard of 320 dpi.

If the Fair Tax group could come up with a couple of designs for yards signs, vehicle magnets, banners and banners stands we have some ideas we would like to discuss that could greatly reduce the costs even at wholesale pricing; volume drives down the cost of our production whereby we could pass that savings along to the Fair Tax group to get a much more professional look at the lowest possible prices.

If you are interested, please give either myself or my husband Curtis a call at 888-816-5050, and visit our website at www.BallyHooBanners.com.

Hope to kick around some ideas with you!

Thanks!
I entered that post, just to show that each of us can do something to educate the public. If you are just the only one in your town you will not be alone for long. Once they understand what it is all about they will sign up, but they may not be active.

Hey Earl,

Saw you in the JC paper. Great job!

There are small community newspapers all over and I found that they are often very open to featuring a local community member who is doing something notable. Last year when I organized the Huckabee Meetup group in Orlando, our local paper did a FRONT PAGE story on me, with the Huckabee Group being most of what I talked about. You just have to give them a local hook. I still have people mention my picture and that article. It was really no big deal but had an impact. I plan to do it again with the Fairtax, hopefully in conjunction with the Orlando Tea Party.
