Sorry about not letting folks know ahead of time, but I only got a days notice myself, but you're right, I should have let folks know.

That said, you might consider sending something to the members of the Ways and Means committee (you can get their names here http://www.house.state.oh.us/index.php?option=com_displaycommittees... ) and offer to provide them with more information about the FairTax if they'd like it. Most of them "appeared" receptive, so I'd suggest letting them know the FairTax had been discussed, that it's an important issue, and we're here to provide information/education about the benefits of the FairTax to one and all.

I too will contact Rep Chandler. It's amazing that many think the VAT is a good idea.

Steve, I'm so glad you had this important opportunity to bring the facts before the politicians. I'll email Rep. Chandler, as well.

I sent Chandler an email asking, in a polite way, what facts she had to backup her opinion of it being "horribly regressive".

Steve, That is fantastic!! I wish we had known earlier. I would love to have gone and watched you in action. Can we do something to follow this up? Would it be a worthwhile endeavor to write Rep. Chandler?

Just letting everyone know, I testified in front of the Ohio House Ways and Means committee today on HB400, a proposal to phase out the Ohio income tax over ten years. My testimony, briefly, pointed out the getting rid if the income tax was good, but the FairTax did much, much, more, and would be a major improvement to HB400.

Got some good questions, and a couple of Representatives who clearly placed themselves in opposition to anything like the FairTax, particularly Rep Chandler who considers the FairTax to be "horribly regressive" for the poor.

Feedback from others was that it was a worthwhile opportunity to educate some members of the Ohio House on the FairTax. We'll see how many follow up.
